I am running a computer with XP, had it for about 15 years. I swear in the past when I put the Doss GCS on this computer MVP paint worked..
At this point any copies of MVP paint I have even those I download online will not work.
The only MVP paint that will open is what came with the windows 3.8 version... But when I open it I can view BGR files but if I ever edit or save I cannot save as vgr it automatically saves as VGA
I remember in the past purely running on Doss if I open GCS paint from inside the editor it would let me save and work with vgr files. But when I would enter GCS paint through the command prompt everything I saved was VGA...
Whatever...
About 10 years ago GCS paint was working on this computer and I made a Sprite that I still have... But recently when I started messing around with the GCS there were various registry errors on my computer
First ntvdm.exe errors.. I was able to resolve bye going in and all terrain the registry text, I had Avast antivirus on the computer and it had added a line in the registry...
Got rid of that and the Doss window worked a lot better..
But now when I try to open GCS paint it gives me runtime error 200 with a bunch of letters and numbers after it..
I think this means that the system runs too fast , I think it's like 1.73 gigahertz CPU
Another quark
When I am in the editor and I test the level the Sound and Music Works.
But when I make final, and Run the game only the midi files play, No wave sounds.
so I'm assuming the periodic upgrades for xp might of knock the system out of balance.
Do I need to use dosbox to get MVP GCS paint to open and Save vgr files?
Are there other graphic editors I can use to view make and save vgr format? I guess more importantly. Are compatible with the pallet format.?
The CD ROM on my computer does not work so reinstalling Windows xp does not sound feasible... I know it's something with the computer that's stopping the program, has anybody else experienced this?
As well in the final product no sound wav files... Has anybody experienced this?
Do I need to use a bigger hammer on my 16 year old computer? Or should I be using in Doss emulator?
Sorry long-winded question I got GCS fever and its really ticking me off
