Recently I've been experimenting with Dos 1.13 ... impressed I can do a lot with it but still finding some bizarre hiccups..
There is a display on the screen of what weapon you are currently using, the title will be "***fat.vga"...
These images are not found in weapondef.txt nor pickup.txt... cannot find any text reference to these VGA images other than in weapons text, where they are called by their file name and not handle numbers..
Regardless I make a new one using the exact dimensions by editing another and save it with a new VGA file name. Using GCS paint from the command line ensuring that I'm making a VGA image..
Then after placing it on the row I want in weapons.txt
Yes it works and appears in the level but whenever I pick the weapon up the gameplay screen will flash dark twice, and if I switch through my weapons and come back to it sometimes it flashes dark twice or even three times..
I've even tried saving as "peelfat.vga".. as that file is pre-existing and not used, but I get the same result.
I put a couple hours into hunting for a Cause or fix and I'm not figuring this one out.
I've done the exact same thing with the windows GCS with no hiccup,..
just wondering if there's something I'm missing from the old dos application..
I swear I remember doing this as a kid changing the appearance of the shotgun VGA, but I don't recall having this issue. But back then I was using Doss not dosbox...?
Any hints or suggestions would be phenomenal, I hope someone's crossed this bridge before me..

Only thing that comes to mind is, are you saving the vga files with or without the palette? Maybe try without and vice-versa.
