Okay I'm experimenting with the Doss GCS taking a little break from my Windows project.
Currently making a pretty radical flamethrower
I thought to myself I should record or modify a new sound effect..
So I use the windows stock sound recorder, make a new sound add it to sounds.txt put the new sound number in weapons.txt...
And when I run the game there's no critical error or problem..
The problem I have is that it plays absolutely no sound all the other sound effects in the game work except for the one I added.
So I told myself screw it I don't have to make a new sound effect I will just use another one from in the game, so I reverse the sound effect of the shotgun which makes a beautiful flamethrower sound in reverse. And as I am replacing the goo gun save it as goop1.wav..
Same problem..
So whether I make or edit a sound effect whether it be a new one or using an existing one the new altered edited modified sound effect will not play..
I am using Windows XP sndrec32.exe... but the format and the file is creating is 8-bit 11 kilohertz or whatnot. When you look at the properties of the existing stock sound effects they are identical to the modified sound effects I save with this sound recorder.
So I think to myself is this a problem with the version of sound recorder I'm using, or something else?...
Back in the day when we were using Doss we might have had Windows 3.1 and been using the sound recorder there it was a feminine hair different than the sound recorder that is on an XP computer, I want to say sndrec32.exe came with windows 98....
So looking for the old school sound recorder to be able to check that I Came Upon a ton of web results saying that there's pin a virus trojan malware thing being passed around using the file name. As well if you articles saying Microsoft is not selling or Distributing that old exe anymore because they own the patent..
Long story short has anybody had issues like this modifying or creating new sound effects for Dos GCS 1.13 using dosbox?
There has to be something simplistic that I'm missing here. I use the exact same 8 bit setting recording sound with sndrec32.exe for my win 1.3 project and it works fine... hmm
